Man Arrested After Breaking into Disneyland During Closure

Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: Breakout! - Wikipedia

A man was arrested late Sunday night after trying to break in to the Disneyland Resort. Police got a call at around 11pm of a man walking around near the Avengers Campus construction site near Guardians of the Galaxy in Disney California Adventure.

The man was an 18 year old transient resident of Anaheim named Jeremiah Smith who was seen attempting to jump over the fence backstage in California Adventure. The motive for breaking in to the resort was so that he could try and steal equipment from the construction site, according to ABC 7. Smith was then cited for trespassing and was arrested and eventually released.

BREAKING: Disneyland Park, Disney World and Universal Studios Hollywood Temporarily Closing

This morning California Governor Gavin Newsom announced that he is banning large gatherings of over 250 people in the state, but theme parks, casinos, and movie theaters were exempt. A few hours later, Disney announced that the Disneyland Resort would be closing due to coronavirus concerns for just the fourth time in its history.

A couple of hours later, Universal Studios Hollywood followed suit and announced that it too would be closing its doors from March 14th through the end of the month. This is particular bad for Universal fans as pass member previews were just getting ready to start this Saturday for the new Secret Life of Pets: Off The Leash attraction.

UPDATE: Disney World has now closed effective Sunday March 15th temporarily.

I will update this story as more details become available, but make sure to ALWAYS wash your hands and stay safe and clean!

This sign was put up by cast members today stating that the attraction will not be reopening today and it is unknown when the attraction will be reopen. It also unknown if this has anything to do with the electrical fire the attraction experienced last year or the incident a few weeks ago where two trains collided.

This has been a very rough week for the Magic Kingdom and Disney World in general as incidents have happened at the Contemporary Resort, Jungle Cruise, and the Haunted Mansion.

Women Jumps From Walt Disney World Resort

Earlier today there was a heavy police presence at Walt Disney World’s Contemporary Resort. It was reported a woman jumped from the window of the resort in an apparent suicide. At around 4pm EST the police were called to the area. There is no more information to provide at this time, but this story will be updated as more news develops. This is the latest in a string of weird incidents at the Walt Disney World Resort including a major breakdown on the Haunted Mansion that occurred last night.

Haunted Mansion at Walt Disney World Closed Indefinitely

Last night at about 9:30 PM EST, the Haunted Mansion was abruptly closed to the public for an unknown reason with cast members stating that they did not know when it was going to reopen. Today photos on social media as well as guest evacuated from the attraction confirm that something was horribly wrong with the omnimover ride system.

Photos posted to social media show the doombuggies (ride vehicles) faced the complete opposite direction in several locations of the attraction. For example in the attic scene the doombuggies usually go on a slope in reverse, but this time they were going down the slope face forward which was quite uncomfortable for riders.

It is unclear what caused the rift in the omnimover system, but here’s hoping they can get it fixed sooner rather than later before the Spring Break crowds start to arrive at the resort. This comes after a recent string of bad luck for the Walt Disney World resort where a Jungle Cruise boat sank, a heavy police presence, and today a women unfortunately was killed when she jumped from the Contemporary Resort.

All of the guests were okay and the water pathways are very shallow so hopefully nobody got too drenched. Disney has not stated the cause of the sinking, but the attraction is running normally again.

WDW Skyliner Has a Major Accident

Just a mere six days after opening the Skyliner at Walt Disney World has crashed due to a power failure on the Caribbean Beach Line. At about 9pm on Saturday night a power failure at the Caribbean Beach Station on the Skyliner caused a blue gondola to get stuck right before it was about to take off from the station. That caused about five other gondolas to crash into the blue gondola and for the whole system to auto-stop after the crash was detected. It was reported that one of the gondolas had its glass shattered, but luckily no guests were injured.

Speaking of the guests, although no guests were injured plenty of angry guests were stranded in other gondolas (some over water) for anywhere between 45 min for up to 3 hours. Now as one can imagine being stuck suspended in a gondola with no air conditioning in the humid and warm Florida air is not the most comfortable thing in the world. Luckily it was dark so it was not as hot as during the day and also guests were lucky not to have any stormy weather pass through while they were stuck. Unfortunately though it was dark so guests had no light besides their cellphone flashlights to guide them as they were waiting for help.

Guests also complained on social media of Disney not offering any updates on the situation for as much as 3 hours. The gondolas came equipped with emergency kits that included water, paper bags, and some other medical supplies for emergencies. At there highest point the gondolas reach 60 feet (six stories) above the ground which is enough for firetrucks to reach. The entire system has 300 cabins and crews have to evacuate each one manually which as one can expect takes quite a bit of time. For gondolas over water it takes even more time because crews have to get on small boats and evacuate the guests on to the boats and transport them back and forth to land before retrieving the next set of guests.

Disney has stated that the incident occurred due to “unexpected downtime” on the line and that they are offering guests four all day park tickets as well as a $200 gift card. I for one would be very hesitant to take the Skyliner because I do not like heights and get claustrophobic and for this very reason of being stranded for 3 hours above water or anywhere makes me wary to say the least.

What do you think of this situation? Just a fluke? Did Disney not do enough testing on the system and opened it to early? Do you think they will do the same thing with Rise of the Resistance and Avengers Campus? Leave your thoughts below!
